Mid 19th century European sampler by Nasic? Milka - 1862. I've put a question mark after the first name as I'm not certain what the third letter is but it looks to be S. I'm also not sure of the origins on this piece but I think it is possibly Eastern European. Worked in wool on a soft gauze, this sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The gauze is stitched with nine different examples of sets of alphabet letters with the numbers 1 through to 10 at the end of the  last row. There are three motifs in the lower section of the gauze with Nasic's name and the date of 1862 beneath. This section of stitching is then underlined with a zigzag border.
The gauze has overall discolouration consistent with its age with general light creasing. The colours of the wool are good, but as can be seen from the photographs, this sampler has certainly been the victim of water damage which has resulted in extensive bleeding to the stitch work giving a sort of psychedelic tie dyed appearance! There are also a few small areas of stitch loss. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Nasic first stitched it.

PLEASE NOTE - This is a long piece measuring 30 1/4" x  14 3/4"
