EMERALD BACKGROUND INFO:
The first known emerald mines were in Egypt, dating from at least 3500 BC into the 1700s. Cleopatra was known to have a passion for emerald, and used it in her royal adornments. The name comes from the ancient Greek word for green: smaragdus.

Today, emeralds are sourced in Colombia, Brazil, Africa, Afganistan and other lesser locations.
Inclusions in emerald are sometimes filled with cedar oil, and the GIA (Gemmological Institute of America) allows this process as long as it is disclosed.
