Original antique envelope to the Red Cross in Copenhagen from Solvychegodsk, a town in Kotlassky District of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia, located on the right-hand bank of the Vychegda River. In 1796, the town became a part of Vologda Governorate. It was also known as a place of political exile. Includes text in Russian and German, ink stamps with inscriptions Petrograd 1915 and Opened by Military Censorship. In Russia, military censorship commissions at the headquarters of the districts were created at the beginning of the First World War and were directly subordinate to the Main Military Censorship Commission. The duties of the local commissions included the perusal of international and local correspondence and censorship of local periodicals.
