Background To issue: From the 1920s to the 1950s, Australia was a major food exporter, including of tinned fruit and especially to British markets, to which Australia had privileged access. From the 1960s, increased global competition led to the start of a downturn. This stamp issue presents three vibrant tinned fruit labels, issued between the late 1930s and the 1950s, spanning brands and canneries from major Australian fruit-growing regions.
