Kammavaca (Kammawa-sa) Buddhist manuscript, late 19th / early 20th century, Mandalay, Burma (Myanmar)

complete Buddhist manuscript, 16 leaves made of strips of coarse cloth / monk's robe plus 2 wooden covers

cover: 60,1 x 14,6 cm (23.66 x 5.75 in)
leaves: 57,8 x 13,8 cm (22.8 x 5.43 in)

age: late 19th / early 20th century

front cover with donor's inscription (dated 12?? - last two digits illegible)

6-lines magyi si sar (tamarind seed script), both covers also gilded and decorated inside

some leaves with bookmarks (orange cross sign top left and / or red dot top right)

condition: two leaves broken and roughly repaired (glued), at covers and leaves gilding partly rubbed, otherwise complete and in good condition.

provenance: German collection, aquired late 1970's / early 1980's
