Description:

An antique silver bookmark / page marker made by Adie & Lovekin Ltd (Birmingham). It is made in two parts, the top is modelled as a butterfly which is decorated with purple, blue and yellow enamel. The page marker blade section is decorated with engraving. The two parts are connected with a silk ribbon.


Identifying Marks / Makers Marks: Hallmarked on the back "ALLD." (maker Adie & Lovekin Ltd), an anchor (Birmingham), the lion passant (silver) and "x" (1922). 

Age / date of manufacture:

1922.

Size: Measures 9" (22.9 cm) long with the silk section. The silver page marker section measures 1 3/4" (4.5 cm) long and is 7/16" (1.2 cm) across at the widest point. The butterfly measures 5/8" (1.6 cm) x 3/8" (1 cm) at the widest points.

Condition: In excellent antique used condition. The enamel butterfly has no chips or cracks. The silver page marker blade has no splits or dents but this piece has been used so has some fine surface marks on the silver. The link joining the page marker blade to the silver link inside the silk ribbon is not silver. The silk ribbon is original but has some stains (these look like ink).
