Background To Issue: Background To Issue: The concept of Earth Hour was pioneered in Sydney in 2007 by WWF-Australia. Residents and businesses were encouraged to switch off electric lights and appliances for an hour to reduce the production of carbon gasses from electricity generation. The event became worldwide on the last Saturday of March from 2008. The stamp designs emphasised the personal nature of the actions that ordinary people can take to save power.
