"THE GHOST OF THE GRIZZLY TREE"

By Bev Doolittle

It is a rare find for collectors of Native American / Camouflage artwork by Bev Doolittle. The print is signed by the artist herself, numbered 209/5000 a lithograph produced in 1977. The piece features a portrait orientation and is framed in a large size.

The print depicts a tree imagined as a bear by a young native boy, with elements of mythology and fantasy intertwined. The use of lithography as a production technique adds depth and texture to the image, while the limited edition status and handcrafted nature make this piece a unique addition to any collection.

*Note: Although there were 5000 produced, Bev Doolittle reported that over 4,000 had been destroyed leaving less than 1000 in circulation making this an extremely rare piece.

The inspiration

"I got the idea on a hike that Jay (Bev's husband) and I took in the High Sierras, a backpack trip. Everything I saw suggested a story. I saw a tree that looked like a bear and I pretended I was an eight year old Indian boy with my first bow and quiver of arrows. Of course, I'd want to shoot everything in sight...and with a child's wild imagination, I'd see fierce animals everywhere."
