BESCHREIBUNG

Originales und großformatiges Inkunabelblatt aus den Dekretalien des Nicolaus de Tudeschis in Basel gedruckt.

Nicolaus de Tudeschis, meist Panormitanus genannt (um 1386 in Catania auf Sizilien - 1445 in Palermo), war ein italienischer Kanonist und Erzbischof von Palermo.

Er trat schon jung in den Benediktinerorden ein und studierte Kirchenrecht in Bologna und Padua; anschließend war er als Kanonist an verschiedenen italienischen Universitäten u.a. in Bologna, Parma, Siena, Florenz und Padua. Seine Lehre war deutlich vom Konziliarismus geprägt. 1433 verteidigte er allerdings in einer Rede die päpstlichen Vorrechte, um die Verlegung des Konzils (wie vom Papst gewünscht) nach Bologna zu erreichen, was aber scheiterte. Nach Spaltung und (Teil-)Verlegung des Konzils nach Ferrara 1437 unterstützte er die konziliare Position gegen den Papst und war für das Basler Konzil als Gesandter tätig, unter anderem auf dem Reichstag in Frankfurt.

1415 erhielt er ein Kanonikat in Parma, 1425 eine Pfründe als Abt des Klosters Santa Maria di Maniace im Val Demone in der Nähe von Catania, 1435 wurde er auf Vorschlag Alfons V. Erzbischof von Palermo; 1440 wurde er vom Gegenpapst Felix V. zum Kardinal erhoben. Nachdem er 1443 nach Palermo gegangen war, starb er dort 1445 an der Pest. Quelle: wikipedia (auszugsweise).

ZUSTAND

Original in sehr guter und kräftiger Druckqualität. Bütten mit Wasserzeichen. Im Außenrand etwas gebräunt und minimal fleckig. Kleines Wurmlöchlein im Außenrand unten.

DESCRIPTION

Original and large-format incunabulum leaf from the decretals of Nicolaus de Tudeschis printed in Basel.

Nicolaus de Tudeschis, usually called Panormitanus (around 1386 in Catania, Sicily - 1445 in Palermo), was an Italian canonist and Archbishop of Palermo.

He joined the Benedictine order at a young age and studied canon law in Bologna and Padua; he then worked as a canonist at various Italian universities, including Bologna, Parma, Siena, Florence and Padua. His teaching was clearly characterised by conciliarism. In 1433, however, he defended the papal prerogatives in a speech in order to achieve the transfer of the Council to Bologna (as desired by the Pope), but this failed. After the split and (partial) transfer of the Council to Ferrara in 1437, he supported the conciliar position against the Pope and acted as an envoy for the Council of Basel, including at the Imperial Diet in Frankfurt.

In 1415 he received a canonry in Parma, in 1425 a benefice as abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria di Maniace in Val Demone near Catania, in 1435 he became Archbishop of Palermo at the suggestion of Alfonso V; in 1440 he was elevated to cardinal by the antipope Felix V. Original in very good condition. Strong print and strong handmade paper with watermark. Only in the outer margin minimal brownish and stained. Small wormhole in the lower margin.
