This vintage brooch is a stunning piece of history. The silver vermeil relief of an ancient ibex image is beautifully crafted, and the asymmetrical shape adds a unique touch. Measuring at 1.5 inches in length, this brooch is perfect for any occasion and will make a great addition to any jewelry collection. The brooch is handmade and features archaeology and ancient pictographs. It is a unisex piece and has a 800 mark. The metal is sterling silver and the item is an original, not a reproduction. The brooch is perfect for anyone who loves ancient history and wants a unique piece of jewelry.

I know nothing about this brooch. It belonged to my mother-in-law.  800 silver is an alloy of silver that is 800 parts silver and 200 parts other metals. It is also referred to as International Coin Silver. This alloy was common in the 19th and early 20th centuries on the European mainland but was not used in jewelry in the United States. My mother-in-law was Greek Cypriot who immigrated to London and then to New York City. She lived in London during the 50's. I have no idea where or when she acquired this very interesting brooch. It could also have belonged to her dear friend and neighbor the artist Nina Embiricos who bequeathed the contents of her NYC apartment to my mother-in-law  at the time of her death in 1987 while abroad in Monaco.

It is almost 1.5 inches.
It weighs 0.2 ounces.
