Chirimen books are picture books made from woodblock prints on washi paper that has been specially processed to give it a crepe-like texture. The text was translated into English, German, French, and other languages by Yakumo Koizumi, Hepburn, and Chamberlain, and the illustrations were drawn by famous artists such as Gyokusho Kawabata, Hideryu Kobayashi, Utamura Suzuki, and Yoshimune Arai. Masu. Chirimen books, which have a unique look and feel and are full of the Japanese atmosphere, have become popular among foreign visitors to Japan as a Japanese product. In conjunction with the special exhibition, we have created a catalog of the "chirimen books" held in the Fussa City Local Materials Room.
