APOLLO 13 SPACE FLOWN TO MOON MATERIAL LARGE SILVER COIN LEM Launched to Moon.

Hello! Please be sure to look at my other items. I have many more unusual and experimental model kits an collectibles listed this week!

We will combine items for shipping whenever possible to save you on postage.

This is a large Sterling Silver coin Struck to commemorate the Apollo 13 mission.

The coin is approx. 1/2 oz in weight and larger than a US half dollar. Reeded edge and proof finish with slight of toning in the fields on the back of the coin.

This is a common occurrence with sterling silver. Otherwise the coin is mint.

The front features a very detailed relief of the Lunar surface. The back of the coin shows Apollo 13 Lunar Landing phase of the mission.

Historical Note:

Apollo 13's LEM never made a landing on the Moon. Instead it was used as a lifeboat for the crew as they only orbited the Moon on their way back to Earth. Apollo 13's crew never landed on the Moon due to unscheduled explosion in the service module earlier in the mission.

The coin is a highly sought after item by collectors. This piece contains a small amount of material from the actual Apollo 13 flight.

The material has been flown into space around the moon and back. These coins were authorized by NASA and struck by the Franklin Mint 50 years ago. The piece has the F-hyphen mint mark denoting the coin does contain flow material.

Never offered for sale to the general public.

Instead they were presentation pieces for Astronaut familles, associates and various VIPs and dignitaries involved with the space program.

Including the original certificate of authenticity.
