Offered in one lot 2 Outstanding gem-like American New England North Coast Plein Air Impressionist Oil Paintings Sketches by Eleanor Colburn (1866-1939)
Born in Dayton, Ohio, Ms. Colburn studied at the prestigious Art institute of Chicago while also working there as a teaching assistant. She further studied with legendary American artists, William M. Chase and Frank Duveneck. She was active in Chicago until the late 1910's, then lived for a time in New Hampshire (when these were likely painted) before settling permanently in Laguna Beach, California.
The paintings are each , oil on 8" x 10" canvases that are professionally laid down on stretched canvases. Along with the paintings is a strip of paperboard bearing this inscription "Snow On The Atlantic, and a typed label "Snow On The Atlantic, by Eleanor Colburn, Laguna Beach Calif."
The paintings appear to be in very good condition, though a couple of small areas of paint loss are visible, lower left corner of the painting with the breaking waves, also visible some craquelure of the paint around the same area. The paintings are each signed, lower left corner.
Though small in size, these paintings present a strong showing when viewed at close range or from across the room. Sure to be a winning, one-two knockout punch for any Arts & Crafts or Modern Decor
