The Hippopotamus Rises! Rare, out of print used chess book on the "Hippopotamus" approach to the Modern Defense!!!

The Hippopotamus Rises by Andrew Martin (1994, Batsford Chess, 144 pages) Very Good Condition. The book and cover have minimal wear from use, and there is a small dent in the corner on the front/back cover (See photos). The interior pages are clean with no markings or writing.

The first book on the Hippo! Out of print and hard to find, this copy is in nice condition. Unique approach for a 10 move system for black in the Modern Defense and other white openings. Explore the two Hippo games Spassky played against Petrosian in the '66 championship match. Learn about Ujtelky, who the Hippo is named after in Russia where it's called The Ujtelky Defense. Cool book! Figurine algebraic notation.

I COMBINE SHIPPING FOR MULTIPLE ORDERS!!! PLEASE ASK IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS.

I absolutely love chess books and have been collecting them for a long time.  Right now, I am beginning again to sell another 200-300 of my own chess books and magazines, just to downsize and get rid of some extras. Please check out my other books: mostly chess books, but other books on gardening, plants, eastern philosophy, and more.

I write my own descriptions of both the content and quality of the books. The books I sell vary greatly in quality from almost new to acceptable/really worn. Some of the “acceptable” books have damaged covers or writing inside, and I describe imperfections in the descriptions, and provide relevant photos. All books I offer are still very readable.

If you receive an order that is not as described in the ad, please message me. Mistakes happen, and I will make it right for you.

And any positive feedback is always greatly appreciated!
Peace, Chuck
