Century of Growth

by Dean Hannotte, Ann Agranoff

What happens when two childhood friends go off to college and lose touch, but then find each other after fifty years? What will they learn by comparing notes -- after a century of growth? "The broad range of ideas, viewpoints and experiences in this conversation establishes relevance and significance, but there is a second achievement that makes this a document of unique importance. The conversation is a dramatic embodiment of the engagement of two contrasting minds in the process of psychological growth through each other." -- Michael Ballin, Associate English Professor Emeritus, Wilfred Laurier University "I'm literally hooked on your book!!!!! I love how you express your point of views and smoothly move from one subject to another. It's also amazing how you share your personal stories with each other. The more I read the more I become eager to learn about you and Ann. I've never talked to Ann or met her but reading your conversation made me feel like I've known her for a thousand years. Bravo, papa habibi." -- Sarra Romdhane

Author Biography

Dean Hannotte studied the history of ideas at St. John's College in Annapolis. In 1966 he met Paul Rosenfels and became a proponent of humanistic psychology. In 1973 they founded the Ninth Street Center and Dean began editing the Ninth Street Center Journal. In 1990 he published We Knew Paul. Since 1997 he has served as Secretary of The Paul Rosenfels Community. Although he dabbles in the art of writing, the only art he really cares about is the art of living. Dean can be reached at After achieving a bachelor's degree in psychology from Cornell University and a master's degree in architecture from Yale, Ann Agranoff discovered that she liked writing and teaching best of all. In the 1980s she collaborated with her husband, Fred Anderes, to produce the book Ice Palaces (Abbeville Press) and several articles about large-scale castles constructed out of ice. In 1989 she started her career teaching English at CUNY, always learning interesting things from her students, who come from a variety of backgrounds and a multiplicity of countries. She woke up to the tremendous danger to civilization posed by global warming in 2005, and she now fights for the future by lobbying with Citizens' Climate Lobby and marching with 350.org. She hopes soon to return to writing full-time, alternating between environmental and cultural topics. She has one daughter, the artist April Agranoff. Ann can be reached at .
