Beyond the Pond

Discover the world of ponds and woods while journeying through Walden which was written by Henry David Thoreau over one hundred years ago. Each chapter title from Walden is used as a framework to explore living simply and searching for a higher meaning while analyzing the duality that exists. This is a love story to this planet with a close look at the climate crisis as well as recognition of the changes brought about by the pandemic. Quotes are used to enhance and support viewpoints of the beauty that exists and the wonder that can be found in the woods and by the ponds if we are willing to really see, hear, and feel. Observations are supported by general research in the amazing number of species of animals, plants, and insects. The author asks the reader to think, about their own journey and values, for in understanding oneself and what is important at the individual level, we can consciously create a better existence. Living a simple life isn't a deprivation but an alignment to values to reach a higher spirituality without the distraction and destruction of a consumerism mindset. Each sun rise is a miracle and each tree is keeping us alive by taking in carbon and releasing oxygen. Reflecting on our behaviour and the behaviour of nature can clarify what we need to do for ourselves and this planet.
