Legend of the Kelp Maiden

by Deanna K. Kauzlaric Kieffer

Do mountains have personalities? If so, what are they and what are their origins? The Legend of the Kelp Maiden tells of such things in prose that paints the mystical paths of the sea and sky with a broad brush. Inspired by the beautiful Olympic Mountains of the Pacific Northwest, the story begins in Hood Canal among the Kelp beds of Dabob Bay marking real places on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. It involves young dreams and wishes and explores love and constancy with out-of-this-world consequences. Once you learn of the secret of the Kelp Maiden, you may never think about Kelp, Mountains, or the Moon quite the same way again.

Author Biography

DeAnna Kauzlaric Kieffer writes and illustrates short stories primarily for youthful audiences and for those who stay young through their appreciation of the Olympic Mountains and the waterways of Puget Sound in Washington State. She enjoys imaginative explorations into the sights and secrets of this environment using a combination of literary surrealism and imagery. The Legend of the Kelp Maiden is the first book offered in this genre. Other manuscripts are in the queue but need is a little blush and nail polish before their debut. In the real world, she is a graduate of the University of Washington, married with grown children and, before retirement, worked as Public Information Director at Olympic College where she managed institutional publications among other responsibilities. My Manette, a collection of short stories based on early childhood experiences, is also available on Amazon.
