1863 - German-born founder John Jacob Bausch-Henry Lomb

became a partner and the company name was changed to Bausch

& Lomb Optical Company.
In 1920, Lt. Col. John MacCready of the U.S. Air Force crossed the

Atlantic Ocean in a balloon and suffered severe eye damage from

the intense ultraviolet rays at sea.
He asked Bausch & Lomb for a pair of sunglasses that would

provide "reliable eye protection and elegance," and in 1937,

Ray-Ban was launched.
These sunglasses are made by B&L and are frames from when

Ray-Ban was still manufactured in the United States.
This aviator model was developed as a sunglass for pilots of

the U.S. Air Force and is also called teardrop model.
It is a popular frame among Ray-Ban sunglasses as a standard

model along with Wayfarer.
The lenses are B&L's original gray glass dimming lenses, which are

about 15% light gray when indoors, but change color from light

gray to dark gray when exposed to ultraviolet rays outside during

the daytime, depending on the intensity of the ultraviolet rays.
The lens is in good condition with no scratches.　
The frame has been disassembled, cleaned, adjusted, and finished.
The original nose pads have also been disassembled, cleaned,

and polished, so they are in good condition and shining.
The modern part has been replaced with a new one as it had

deteriorated over time.
The original B&L Ray-Ban case is included.

problems.
All of our vintage eyeglass frames have been inspected, cleaned,

basic frame adjustments, and celluloid frames have been buffed

(polished).
