Vampire Tales

by Patt Gavin

Rome in the fifth century saw the reign of Pope Leo, the death of Attila the Hun, the end of the Holy Roman Empire and the birth of vampires. Pope Leo was confronted with many dilemmas during his twenty years as pontiff but none would prove to be as difficult as trying to stop the heretic Pelagius, who was also to become the world's first vampire. Set in a time when Celtic religion was on the decline and the Catholic church was gaining ground, Vampire Tales is the story of how a pagan god was able to stay alive by transferring his essence into the body of a human. That god, Crom, was the Celtic god of the sun. His victim, Pelagius, was a fallen priest. Together they gained immortality but at a cost. The god of the sun is now cast in darkness and the priest must live on human blood.

Author Biography

Patt Gavin has spent his entire adult life as an outspoken advocate for gay rights. This endeavor culminated in the publication of his first novel, Almost Paradise, the story of two men seeking to legally marry. This book came out more than ten years before any state had legalized gay unions. He followed that work with his first attempt at non-fiction, a memoir of his childhood with six brothers and two sisters titled Growing Up in the House of Doom. This book is a series of heart-warming stories of the impetuousness of youth told with a dose of humor and a great deal of love. Vampire Tales is his first work in the supernatural genre and combines his love of fiction with another passion; religion. Patt holds a Bachelor's Degree in Religious Studies from California State University Northridge and he uses his education to tie together the realm of vampires with their strong adversity to religious articles, in particular to those of the Christian variety. Patt grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania and moved to Los Angeles at the age of 30. After 25 years in Los Angeles, he relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he currently resides with his black cat, Merlin.
