The 996 is the perfect 911 for someone looking for practicality as well as sporting pedigree. These cars are easy to live with and easy to drive - particularly this Carrera 4 model which has all-wheel drive for improved stability and Tiptronic S automatic transmission which is a joy to use. Our 88k miles example is finished in metallic silver with luxurious black hide. The car is fitted with the highly desirable "Aero" kit which gives it a more aggressive presence thanks to additional spoilers, side skirts and a distinctive "Whale tail" rear spoiler.
Inside the 996 is well built and equally well equipped with air conditioning and a full electrics pack. This car even has the optional satellite navigation fitted. The gearbox is automatic, but you can opt to change manually using steering-wheel mounted buttons for a more involved driving experience, should you wish to. The car comes with a fold-away diffuser which sits behind the rear seats to improve airflow with the roof down and the car even has its original floor mats.
I drove the car over 100 miles prior to writing this advertisement and enjoyed every moment behind the wheel. The Flat-6 engine is legendary and delivers an excellent soundtrack to accompany its awesome performance. Out on the open road the car is very refined, even this convertible model has barely any wind noise at 70mph. I was also very impressed to discover I had averaged over 30mpg on my 120 mile drive.

It is true that nothing handles or drives quite like a Porsche 911. This car is, quite simply, an icon and one of the greatest drivers cars of all time. I also think that this era of 911 was one of the best proportioned cars of all time - It is surprisingly compact, but that makes it easy to place on the road and makes it surprisingly easy to drive. Even at speed, the Carrera 4 feels controlled and inspires your confidence behind the wheel. The beautiful sound of that flat 6 engine will send the hairs on your neck stand on end as the 911 catapults you towards the horizon. There are plenty of sports cars to choose from but only one 911 and in my opinion it has never ben bettered.
The real beauty of these cars is that it is actually practical enough to use every day, but also special enough to make every journey an event to remember.
