1930's woman's costume , 6 pieces!! It's the very best I've ever seen ~ I truly can't believe what a treasure I found in these textiles! It's so very very rare to find all of the pieces together!! This outfit is Portuguese , Viana do Castelo region of Portugal ~ I wish so much I had more than 10 photographs!!! It's SUPURB ~ I've never found a true set, all together.
This came from the home of a woman that was in her 70's and it was her mothers.
I think the best way for me to give all information is to go through this listing in the layers!
1) The blouse : natural cotton, All hand embroidered!! There is lace around the neck and sleeves ~ It snaps on the sleeves and collar too ~ The cotton is lovely and the hand embroidery in deep wonderful blue!
2) The skirt: hand woven, all hand made ~ STUNNING ~ I think I had the opening in the wrong position when I photographed! The hole and stripe for closing go in the front and are covered by the apron ~ The skirt is a work of art ~ all hand embroidered on a cotton and wool ground. Magnificent hand embroidery , sequins and blead work It's beyond compare !~
3 ~ the small corset / under vest : this textile ties using string~ it's absolutely UNREAL. The back and sides are highly decorating using sequins, beads, embroidery ~ it's truly outrageously wonderful. There is an interlining so it has nice, sturdy body to it. There is boning at the ties ( feels a bit like sticks were used?? The back is a work of art, even just this vest is worthy of an museum , let alone the entire suit.
4 ) The apron: All handmade using needlework It's handmade and has a lovely yellow trim at the bottom ~ The threads used is a cotton and wool blend.
5) The beaded purse! Almost always lost with these sets, it's amazing . The word Amor is hand beaded on to the ground cloth. It's backed in a 1930's floral ~ This textile ties around the waist again uses embroidery , sequins and beading. Little French knots everywhere!! ~
6 Shoes : be still my heart~ they are wonderful. All hand worked as well, open back mule style with a softly lined fabric was used for the feet area and the outer soul is all leather. Tiny tiny tacks used to make these genius textiles ~all hand embroidered, sequins, beads ETC ~
Again, I wish I had more than 10 photographs to show. This Folk Costume is simply put : remarkable. The time that went into making this is YEARS ~

1) Blouse : It's about a medium : 41 chest straight across the breast, 41 inch waist , 21 inch sleeves and about 19 inches at the shoulders, measured straight across ~
2) Skirt : 28 inches wide at the waist which has a tie so it can expand greatly! ~ by 33 inches long
3) outer vest : 31 inches at the waist, ( fully closed, the strings expand it greatly ) by about 13.5 inches long
about 11 inches measured straight across the back.
4) Apron : 11 inches wide at the pleated top and the ties extend it to 38 inches It's 26 inches long to ensure the skirt can be seen under it!
5) Beaded purse : 10 inches long by 7 inches wide where the Amour is written
6 ) Last but not least the shoes!~ From the tip of the toe to the back of the shoe is 9 inches , They are about 3 inches wide at the widest part of the toe. If I was forced to say what size, I might say 4-5 ??? Not really sure ~*~

CONDITION : Astoundingly good condition . The beaded purse needs some stitched to hold the garland of beads in place. The shoes have some wear on the inside toe area ~ This folk costume is not only rare as it's complete, however it's in Such amazing condition, I truly just can't believe it.
Ideal for any collector or museum.
