Background To Issue: The first expedition members to locate and reach the South Magnetic Pole on January 16, 1909 were Professor T.W. Edgeworth-David, Sir Douglas Mawson and dr. Alastair Forbes Mckay. Unlike the geographic poles, which are fixed points, the Earth's magnetic poles are mobile - travelling erratic courses in the North and South polar regions of the globe.
