Background To Issue: A 500 mile endurance race, originally for Australian built production sedans, began at Philip Island, Victoria in 1960 and was moved to Mount Panorama at Bathurst, NSW in 1963. There were various specifications over the years but from 2000 it was run exclusively by Australian-built V8 cars - the Ford Falcon and the Holden Commodore. The most successful driver was Peter Brock who won nine times from 1972.
