1950s Nomura Japan Tin Battery Operated Mechanized Robby Robot With Original Box.

Tin battery-operated Robby robot which was made in Japan by Nomura in 1957.

This is for sure the robot icon that everybody knows: ROBBY THE ROBOT in its purest form. Its also a FIRST VERSION of the toy with pin style handle pulls on the leg battery compartment doors.

In action Robby advances with walking motion as his head dome lights up, pistons move up and down and his ear antennas spin.

After testing the robot with batteries, he does exactly as described above and is in working condition but please note that the piston action in the head section lights up and moves with the two ear antennas rotating but these can be a bit temperamental in functionality.

The overall condition of this robot for its age is excellent to near mint with only very minimal signs of any play wear and a few very minor scratches. The battery compartments are beautifully clean with barely a mark in them. This robot has clearly been extremely well looked after and is a truly beautiful example.

The original box is in OK condition for its age showing usual expected signs of wear/creasing to ends, corners and sides plus a couple of tears/holes and it is missing one end section of the lid.

Approx. 33 cm tall.

Requires 2 x D cell batteries one in each leg compartment (not included). IMPORTANT: DUE TO THE INCREASED WEIGHT AND SIZE OF MODERN-DAY ALKALINE D CELL BATTERIES, THESE VINTAGE ROBOTS WORK BEST WITH PLASTIC BATTERY CONVERTERS (WITH AA BATTERIES) OR A COMBINATION OF ONE OF EACH.

Please do take a close look at the photos provided for condition, quality and detail as these help form part of the description.
