General Information:

The Super Red Calico Pleco, scientifically known as Hypancistrus sp. (commonly L333 or LDA33), is a species of ornamental catfish native to the Rio Xingu in Brazil. Here are some key points about them:

1. **Coloration:** True to their name, Super Red Plecos exhibit vibrant red coloration. The intensity of the red can vary, but it's generally a distinguishing feature.
2. **Size:** They typically grow to around 4-5 inches (10-12 cm), making them suitable for moderately sized aquariums.
3. **Habitat:** Found in rocky areas with fast-flowing water, replicating their natural habitat in the aquarium is crucial. Provide hiding spots with caves and rocks.
4. **Diet:** Omnivorous, their diet includes both plant matter and protein. High-quality sinking pellets, supplemented with live or frozen foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp, are ideal.
5. **Tank Requirements:** A well-aerated tank with a strong filtration system is essential. Maintain stable water parameters, including a slightly acidic to neutral pH (around 6.0-7.0) and temperatures between 78-86°F (25-30°C).
6. **Compatibility:** They can be territorial, so it's advisable to keep them with compatible tankmates. Avoid housing them with overly aggressive or similarly territorial species.
7. **Breeding:** Breeding Super Red Plecos can be challenging. Providing suitable caves for spawning and maintaining good water conditions are key factors.

Always research and tailor your care routine to the specific needs of Super Red Plecos, and monitor their behavior and health regularly.
