Historical context: 15th congress of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia was a congress of the then-ruling Communist Party of Czechoslovakia held in the Czechoslovakia during the period of normalization in 1971.
Congress took place on May 25-29, 1971 in Prague, in the Congress Palace.
It was attended by 1,183 delegates who represented 1,194,191 members of the Communist Party at that time. Gustav Husak was elected general secretary of the party, Milos Jakes became chairman of the Central Control and Review Commission.
The congress elected 115 members of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.
The congress was an expression of the stabilization of the power positions of the normalization regime after the defeat of the Prague Spring as a result of the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Warsaw Pact troops.
As a result of the post-August purges, there was also a significant decrease in the membership of the Communist Party of the Czech Republic (Wiki).
