A monumental 19 inch high Renaissance Revival spelter bronze mantle pitcher ewer with oviod body, ornate long neck, elongated spout, beautiful raised lace handle topped with a siren head and with a dragon head inside, on a long four feet base.
The ewer is richly decorated with embossed elements, arranged in ten horizontal thematic bands. Spout has a mascarone cartouche encircled with the Raffaellesco style laces. Separated from the rest of the neck by a series of bands, featuring floral and geometric embossed decorations.
The body has two mascarones in the front and the back. The sides feature the "momento mori" (remember about death) allegory. The left hand side is "Life" allegory. Angel holds a lit torch - a symbol of life, accompanied by and cherub and a flying dove. The angel is Uriel - the angel of repentance. He stands at the Gate of Eden with a fiery sword and protects the world from the dark forces.
The right hand side is the "Death" allegory. Mourning angel is the Angel of Death, who takes the dead souls. Accompanied by a cherub holding a torch upside down, that is the symbol of death. The hanging poppies are a symbol of oblivion.
The life and death allegory goes back to the Greek and Roman stoics and beyond.
The richly adorned base is separated from the body by a rimmed band. It spreads into four feet decorated with geometric and foliage patterns.
The ewer was produced in the second half of XIXth century in the then popular technique of cast spelter bronze and served only decorative purpose, as it does not have the bottom.
Ewer comes in the original condition, with no signs of wear, damage or repair.

Returns
Returns are accepted within 30 days from item receipt. Refunds will be made after return of the item in original condition.
