A beautiful vintage Chinese yellow and red peony flowers porcelain lobed begonia shaped vase (so-called Mallet vase) vase with long flared neck elegantly widening towards the rim.  Porcelain painted in overglaze polychrome elements.  

All design elements were cut on the perimeter in soft paste before firing.   All colour fillings are meticulously applied and extremely well contained within their borders, in radiant cobalt, yellow and turquoise colours against white background. 

The neck is decorated with a repeating yellow band of heart shape (wave) design elements and is separated from the body by a red band with repeating twisting foliage scrolls and yellow flowers.  The body is filled with a yellow and red peony spray on meandering stems with curling leaves, separated from the base by a red band of yellow and turquoise repeating geometrical patterns.

As of the VIII-th century peony trees were well established in the Chinese cultural aesthetics as symbols of female beauty and love, as well as wealth, status and prosperity, and was considered one of the most beautiful flowers in China. By the Song dynasty (Xth - XIIIth centuries), peony trees had become a favourite muse of Chinese painters.  Later on the peony flower became a symbol of the Emperors' power and the king of flowers.

This vase is a Chinese post renaissance example of a 20 century revival of the 16-17 century ceramic traditions.

The vase comes in an original condition, with no chips, cracks or wear.

Shipping and taxes

I ship only to the approved address registered on eBay.  I do combined shipping whenever possible.  Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility.

I will do my best to ship the item as soon as possible, but reserve the right to ship within the next 3 business days after receipt of a cleared payment. 

Returns

Returns are accepted within 30 days from item receipt.  Refunds will be made after return of the item in original condition.

If you return your purchase you will be responsible for the cost of shipping it back to me.  You will be refunded the purchase price less the outbound shipping cost and a 15% restocking fee as permitted by eBay Seller Rules.

I guarantee that you will receive the exact item pictured in this listing, and that I package all of my items carefully to ensure that they arrive to you safely. 

If you receive an item damaged in the mail, please do not attempt to return the item.  Should the damage occur despite my careful packaging, this must be handled through the shipping agent with an insurance claim.  I will be happy to assist with it.
