HENRY WILKINSON 1921 - 2011
Henry Wilkinson was best known for
his hunting, shooting and fishing paintings, etchings and engravings,
particularly of sporting dogs.
He studied at The Royal College of
Art and was elected a member of The Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and
Engravers.
A superb and well-loved artist who enjoyed a
career spanning more than 60 years, he became the acknowledged master of canine
engraving following the death of his mentor, Vernon Stokes. Wilkinson
hand-painted each engraving so that no two were exactly the same, each
reflecting this fine artist’s deep love and understanding of the countryside
and of the creatures and nature within it.
