1966 Press Photo TV screens show J-2 hydrogen-fueled rocket engine shot in CA
This is an original press photo. Cameras - ("Invisible Flame" photographed by TV camera). Canoga Park, California. Engineers testing the J-2 hydrogen-fueled rocket engine in Canoga Park, California, have devised a method of photographing invisible hydrogen flames so they can track down leak sources as they occur. At left, on a closed circuit television screen, the flame cannot be seen. At right, it is visible because it was photographed by a TV camera modified to pick up infrared light waves through special filters. The system was developed by the Rocketdyne division of North American Aviation. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 1-15-1966.
