Raj Kapoor's Boot Polish, the 1954 (released in the U.S. in 1958) Prakash Arora Indian juvenile family relationship orphans poverty melodrama (produced by Raj Kapoor; about a pair of young children whose mother dies and the father goes to prison, and they are sent to live with their aunt who is a prostitute, and she sets them out begging, but they meet a man who helps them start to give shoe-shines, and that improves their life until the monsoon season, when no one gets shoe-shines, and they are separated, and the girl is adopted by a rich family, but she doesn't know what became of her brother) starring Kumari Naaz, Rattan Kumar, David Abraham, Chand Burke, and Veera. Note that this is a classic example of what is known today as "Bollywood", movies made in India about Indians with all Indian cast and crews. It obviously owes a huge debt to Vittorio De Sica's 1946 "Sciuscia" (Shoeshine), with a similar plot, but this apparently is a really excellent movie, and the child actors, who were quite young when the movie was filmed, do an excellent job.
