Book Of Utrillo & The Painters Of Montmartre - Vintage 1970, Hardback

Many artists have found subjects worthy or their talents in such cities as Venice, London, Toledo, New York and Paris. But no artists ever produced so detailed a portrait of a city as Maurice Utrillo did of Montmartre - that hill north of the Seine that was the original artists' quarter of Paris. Montmartre was Utrillo's obsession. It was his lifelong and almost exclusive subject in his paintings. There was scarcely a street, an alley, a wall, a church, or the facade of a house in Montmartre that he did not paint at least once. Together his paintings make a composite portrait that is unique in art.
