1958 Press Photo Commemorative medal for Pope John XXIII's coronation
This is an original press photo. John XXIII - Pope. This is a medal to be coined in commemoration of the November 4 coronation of Pope John XXIII. It was engraved by Vatican artist Professor Aurelio Mistruzzi. One side shows image of the Pontiff, surrounded by the words "Johannes XXIII Pontifex Maximus." Other side shows Pontifical Tiara, with a dove above it in an image of the sun, and Latin inscription "Corona Aurea Super Caput Eius" (The golden crown is on his head). Latter side also carries date of coronation. Medal will be coined in gold, silver and bronze, and will be presented by the Pope to those whom he will receive in audiences during course of the year.Photo measures 10 x 8.25inches. Photo is dated 11-11-1958.
