This badge is a rare badge that was once part of a late 1800s Victorian British military helmet plate. Since then it has been detached. The item is in fine condition considering its age, albeit some welding repairs have been made to some of the lugs on the back and one of them is bent at a slight angle.

The badge belongs to The King's Shropshire Light Infantry, which was formed in 1881. The regiment has taken place in several wars, including the Transvaal War, the Egyptian War, the Third Ashanti War, the Boer War, WWI, WWII and the Korean War.

In 1968, the regiment was merged with The Durham Light Infantry, The King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and The Somerset and Cornwall Light Infantry, forming The Light Infantry.
