Salamina design by Rockwell Kent for Vernon Kilns. This is a souvenir pitcher measuring 4 .5" tall x 4" wide. This one pint pitcher was created by the artist as a souvenir and is not a part of the Salamina dinnerware line. According to the book, "Collectible Vernon Kilns" by Maxine Nelson, "this was the only Kent design that was hand-tinted and considered the most valuable of all Kent dinnerware."

Rockwell Kent was an artist, author and political activist. Born in Tarrytown Heights, New York, he lived in Maine, Newfoundland, Alaska, Greenland, the Adirondacks and explored the waters of Tierra del Fuego. In 1934 Kent wrote his best selling book, Salamina, which he also illustrated. It chronicled his life in Greenland, and is named after his housekeeper, and stated in the book that "Salamina was the most faithful, most noble, most beautiful and altogether captivating of all women of North Greenland".
