__________
Pressbooks were advertising brochures sent directly to theatre owners from
the period around 1910 through to the 1970s (they were replaced by the more
elaborate presskits). The main distributor of pressbooks during this time was
the National Screen Service (NSS). On occasion a pressbook could contain film
info for a double feature but the vast majority of pressbooks were dedicated to
a single film. The pressbook would contain examples of available posters,
photos, and lobby cards (which they could order from NSS), and prepared
newspaper articles that the theatre owner could clip out and send to the local
newspapers (so be careful when buying, some pressbooks could have cutouts). Some
of these pressbooks also contained ideas on promoting the film, usually the
cheaper the film the more ideas to promote.
