You are looking at a non-branded 1993 Japanese Grand Prix 1:43 McLaren-Ford MP4/8 diecast model of Three-Time Formula 1 World Champion Ayrton Senna - made by resin and diecast German model manufacturer Minichamps (Product Code: 540 934378).

Uncertainty surrounded Ayrton Senna on the eve of the 1993 season, the Brazilian reluctant to sign a contract on the basis of McLaren losing its Honda engines in favour of a less competitive (on paper) Ford customer engine, with both Michael Andretti and Mika Hakkinen being signed to the team as a result.  However, Ayrton agreed to sign with McLaren, initially on a race-by-race basis, before running full time with the team until the end of 1993, nudging Hakkinen back to the role of test driver until the 1993 Portuguese Grand Prix, replacing the hapless Andretti.

After six rounds, Ayrton actually led the championship despite the underpowered Ford engine versus the Renault in the leading Williams cars, achieving some remarkable results to keep the championship fight going until Portugal.  This car is based on Ayrton's fourth victory of five in the 1993 season, winning in Suzuka from eventual champion Alain Prost, his old teammate turned bitter rival, who won his fourth and final title before retiring from F1 at the end of 1993.

Over the 1993 season, Ayrton Senna achieved five victories, a pole position at the 1993 Australian Grand Prix (which he also won, a fastest lap at the 1993 Donnington Park Grand Prix, which he showcased his talents on the first lap of the race, and finished second in the standings on 73 points, before his fateful move to Williams-Renault for 1994.

The model features Ayrton's McLaren-Ford MP4/8 as it ran to victory at the 1993 Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka.  It is a limited edition version of 504 pieces worldwide.  Please note this model will not have the Marlboro decal sheet normally supplied by Minichamps, as this was omitted by a seller I had previously bought this model from.

The model and lid are both in new condition without the cellophane sleeve.

Thanks for looking :)
