From the review
☆The best reference for Japanese camera machines
Rather than viewing the camera as a frivolous mook book produced by a publisher with the sole purpose of making a profit (although I do buy many such books myself), I view the camera as a cultural object, and as an example of industrial history. This is a serious reference book about cameras, which is rare in Japan, and attempts to position them from a different perspective. Moreover, it is also practical. There are several books like this in Europe and America, but perhaps because Japanese collectors view cameras as nothing more than pet toys, there are almost no specialized books that can be preserved for the future. This is a valuable book that could only be created by people who truly love cameras. The sincerity of the authors is reflected not only in the thoroughness of the content, but also in the fact that they published a revised edition 10 years after publication. Since it was such a serious book, I think it probably didn't make much money.

☆Encyclopedic, bedside reading: you don't know what you don't know
lsewhere this is criticized for incompleteness and brevity: what? It'd be true that (for example) not all Nikonos variants are listed...but hey - that information is readily available on the net now anyway. Where this scores is in giving a searcher somewhere to start from: a name of an otherwise totally obscure camera that simply doesn't occur elsewhere - and there are dozens of these, all neatly illustrated and described eight per page, all 2,200 of them. This took quite a bit of finding - but it was well worth the wait
