1900s Qing Dynasty 900
Silver Lidded “Ginger” Pot w Hunting & Family Scenes 250g
This is an outstanding
handcrafted and hand-decorated pot that we date to the Qing dynasty years of
the early 1900s. It is not marked; tests confirm it is a minimum of 900 for its
near sterling silver fineness. It has a deliberate, tasteful, near matt finish
with a low sheen.
Siting on a low octagonal
foot ring the body has eight finely engraved panels. Four feature depictions of
hunters on horseback armed with bow and arrow hunting a tiger or bird in
flight. The remaining four feature the ladies and children at leisure in open
parkland. The remaining areas of the wall are ornately engraved with beautiful
flowers and scrolled leaves. The push on lid has a similar ground with a
central “Chinese peach” finial.
We have listed other pieces of collectable silver,
jewellery and watches this week, please refer to our other listings.
The pot is in excellent
antique condition, no damage or faults to report, some minor wear and a warm
patina. The photos form part of the condition description.
Please look at all the pictures, they are a really important part of the description and condition report.
