This work is the account of the author's travels through the Middle East, following the Biblical footsteps across the desert for forty days, as the Israelites followed Moses leading them out of Egypt. Written and illustrated by William Henry Bartlett. Bartlett was an illustrator who travelled extensively throughout the Middle East, Europe, America, and the Balkans. During this travels he wrote travel works which he also illustrated. He is best known for his drawings which had been rendered into steel engravings, making sepia wash drawings to the exact sized to be engraved, mostly landscapes. Some of Bartlett's other works include 'American Scenery', 'Canadian Scenery', and 'History of the United States of North America.
