Selling here is an extra illustrated set of 'Biographical Sketches of the Queens of England', edited by Mary Howitt and published by Virtue & co, undated but circa 1870. Complete in three volumes. 

4to, uniformly bound in early 20th century brown half calf over matching cloth, five gilt ruled raised bands to spines, gilt lettered direct to spines. Later marbled endpapers. 

The books measure 19cm by 27cm.

The contents are complete, meeting collation: (6), 182; 183-348; 349-516pp with 176 plates including frontispiece, drawn from a wide variety of 18th,19th and early 20th century sources.

Condition: The bindings are firm, some very thin partial cracking starting to vols 1 and 2 in places, general light handling wear and scuffs, some patchy staining to the spines and turn ins but still an attractive set. Contents firmly bound and in good clean condition as seen, lightly toned with occasional minor spots and marks, a small number of the extra plates with hand written background to lower margins.
