1966 Press Photo Artificial heart used for heart patients at Houston hospital
This is an original press photo. This is a close up of the type of artificial heart that is being used in a patient today at Methodist Hospital at Houston, Texas. The upper part of the pump is made of plastic and the tubes are made of nylon. Dr. Michael DeBakey is using this type of pump on a patient today in order to help the patient's own heart heal and take a rest. Later, if the patient's heart is healed and can take over the pumping, this artificial heart will be removed. Photo measures 8 x 11inches. Photo is dated 04-21-1966.
