Description

Check it out...Here's a unique item from . 5 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" tall bifold Christmas card from 1963 by Lilian Russell of Wewoka Oklahoma to Mr. + Mrs. James Broadus at 3806 Old Shell Rd., Springhill Station Mobile Alabama. Christmas card features a real photo image of the Russell home and opens two pictures of the family and the family dog with a seasonal greeting. Tucked away inside is a three page handwritten note reading: "Hi! How are all the Broadus's? The Russell's are fine. I got through 1963 without an operation. Jack had his first serious six spell – hepatitis. We have two factories now + that means that Jack works too hard, but other than that life is good. Our Lilian Russell factory here burned to the ground. But October 1 we moved into a brand-new building. With the latest of machines and office equipment. We just returned from Miami, Florida + I went over to Fort Lauderdale to see Billy Wilkinson they have a lovely place. Jerry is an Kemper military school in Boonville, Mo. This year. We are pleased with his progress and how he has adjusted to a new way of life. We plan on sending Van all four years of high school up there unless for some reason we should change our minds + let him stay here one more year. Jerry is 16 now + lacks a fraction from being 6 feet tall. Van is 12 and loves every sport that was ever invented. Hope this finds all of you well and happy. Love, Lillian." Really a cool vintage one-of-a-kind item that is in used condition with edge wear and soiling consistent with age and normal use (See images below for clarification)- A great item ready for display-

Here is some info on the company:

In 1982, the Lillian Russell dress firm, headquartered in Wewoka, was purchased by L.R. Industries, Inc., a newly organized corporation. The Lillian Russell name will continue on the dress label. Jack and Lillian Russell, who founded the dress firm more than 30 years ago, will continue to serve as consultants for the company which occupies more than 60,000 square feet of plant space in Wewoka and Konawa. As the state's only major dress manfacturing firm, the company employs more than 300 people and represents more than $6 million in sales annually. The Russell's sons, Van and Jerry, will remain with the firm. Russell, who lives in Oklahoma City with her husband, has always considered herself more of a fashion coordinator than a designer. She has designed fashions ever since the company started with simple housedresses that retailed for $5.95 and were $2.95 wholesale. L.R. Industries will maintain the firm's showrooms in the Dallas and Atlanta Apparel Marts where more than 10,000 lines of men's women's and children's apparel are showcased.

Terms of Sale

I try and place a penny in every photo to help judge the size of the item, obviously it is there for size comparison and is not included with the item. The standard sized Lincoln head penny in the photograph is there for size comparison ONLY and is not included in the package. We're just trying to help you figure out how big the item is. We try and always be as accurate as we can in the item description and will gladly answer any question about item size & description when needed. Please e-mail us with any questions BEFORE the end of sale and BEFORE placing a bid. Postage is determined by the U.S. Postal service and is never refundable. Many of the items are VINTAGE and although they are in very fine condition, they may not function as well as when they were made decades ago. So if you intend on using the old item, please be aware that we are selling it for collector value only. In other words, if you intend on using a 50+ year old letter opener and it breaks, don't get mad at us. It may be hard to believe, but we have received a couple negatives because people broke vintage items while trying to use them.
