Basic Information

The basics

A badge from approximately WWI for The Royal Berkshire Regiment, brass / bronze metal.

Item Condition

So you know what to expect

This badge is in good condition, but has some small spots of rust that are difficult to see at first glance and on the reverse, it seems that some repairs have been made to the lugs to reattach them. The front of the badge, apart from the very small spots of rust, is in mostly fine condition.

Item Date

Timeline origin

Based of educated guess, approximately WWI. My estimate may not be completely accurate, although loopholes / lugs were more common before WWI and in the early years of WWI.

Historical and Contextual Information

For your own interest

The Royal Berkshire Regiment has fought in conflicts including the Boer War, WWI and WWII. In 1959, the regiment was combined with The Wiltshire Regiment to form The Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment.

The main symbol of the Berkshire Regiment is a Chinese dragon. This commemorates the service of the 49th Regiment in the Opium Wars. The 49th (Hertfordshire) Regiment would later merge with the 66th (Berkshire) Regiment to form The Royal Berkshire Regiment in 1881.
