Edition of 1864 of this famous historical novel by Cesare Cantù (1804-1895). Cantù wrote this historical novel during his prisony in the austrian jails from the november 1833 until the october 1834 a quel che si crede servendosi di carta destinata a servizi ben più modesti e facendo uso di stuzzicadenti come penne, e di nero fumo di candela come inchiostro (Parenti, Rarità bibliografiche dell'Ottocento, I, pp. 76-78 e V, pp. 87-92).
The work, published for the first time in 1838, was a great success and was translated in different languages. The novel is placed in the Milan of the XIV century under the Signoria dei Visconti and is highly influenced by Promessi Sposi
The work is in one volume and it is complete.
