This is an original press photo. Corsica (General). Ajaccio, Corsica. The Algerian Gaullist revolt against the Paris government is reported May 24 to have spread to this Corsican capital city. The port city of Ajaccio on the west coast of Corsica, shown in a September 19, 1943 file photo, was reportedly taken over by a "Committee of Public Safety", similar to the one in control in Algeria. The French government called the action "an insurrection against the State", and Premier Pierre Pflimlin called an emergency cabinet meeting.Photo measures 9 x 7.25inches. Photo is dated 9-19-1943.
