David Ledger first went to South Arabia with the Intelligence Corps in 1960 and later joined the High Commission as a Political Officer.He stayed until the final withdrawal at the end of 1967 so was witness to many of the events described in this book which after tracing the historical background was the first book to describe in graphic detail the final days of British rule and the chaos left behind.The book does not hesitate to indicate those,both British and Arab,who behaved badly or with negligence and seeks to provides some answers to the questions how it ended so quickly and badly.Illustrtaed with black and white photographs and maps. 232 pages.

First edition,first printing.Hardback.Brown boards lettered in gilt to the spine.Clean boards,bright titles.Spine a little rolled.Solidly bound.Slight foxing.There are extensive annotations mainly in the form of lines in the margins and underlining but also some written notes.The dustwrapper has some tears at the spine ends to a maximum depth of around 2cm,slight paper loss,surface rubbing,spine lettering faded to yellow.Not price-clipped-carries no price.Former owner's details to the title page presumably as the endpapers are pictorial-see pictures.
