This
clock was retailed by Bentima in 1950s, and its movement was made in Middlesex,
the renowned quality three-train Perivale movement. The dome toped case is
presented in smooth shiny condition after a few coats of waxing; the famous
Perivale movement has been dismantled, ultrasonically overhauled, and oiled
(see photos). This All British Made clock is now presented in good antique
condition, great working order, playing the quarterly Westminster chiming
tunes.
The
art-deco style case is made of oak wood veneers, with an arched top. A large 6-inch
chrome-plated brass bezel front door (show minor signs of tarnish) is fitted
with the original convex glass. A silvered chapter ring has black Arabic
numerals showing the hour, pointed by a pair of silvered framed hour and minute
hands. The manufacture/retailor name Bentima is printed at the top of the dial,
whilst Made in Great Britian is printed at the bottom.
The
re-known Perivale movement was subjected to careful examination, stripping off
the components, ultrasonically overhauled, repaired (worn bushed replaced,
quite a few) and serviced, as usual. The clock is now working very well for
weeks, ticking beautifully, chiming pleasantly and keeping good time. The quarterly
Westminster chime is produced via four bronze bars, making 4, 8, 12 chimes at
every 15, 30, 45 minutes and 16 chimes +striking at the full hour, which can be
silenced easily by flicking a small lever inside the dial on the right.
The
dial, hands, glass, and bezel are all in excellent antique condition. It is
shiny after careful waxing. Overall, clock
will sit nicely in any mantel in a living room.
The
clock has a slim size,
which measures: 11-inch wide, 8.5-inch tall and 5-inch deep (28 x 22 x 13 cm).
All
clocks I sell are subject to weeks of testing prior to listing, and they come
with a pendulum and working winding key. In this case, the clock comes with its
original guided pendulum and a vintage steel winding key.
Please
look at the photos which form an essential part of the description.
I will pack the clock as careful as possible to make sure it
arrives safely. I will provide a guidance to help set up the pendulum.
