Norsk Stalpress, known since 1990 as Norstaal, is responsible for numerous iconic Scandi Style designs, but few if any are quite as iconic as the Inka cutlery range - a mid-century modern classic, it has been eagerly sought out by collectors and interior stylists ever since it was introduced in 1956.

Made in Bergen, Norway, Inka was for many years credited to the designer Tias Eckhoff, but this appears to be an error stemming from the fact that Eckhoff designed ranges known as Maya and Aztek; in fact, it appears Inka is the work of Danish-born designer Eric Herlow who, as with many of leading lights of Scandi style, was a qualified architect - among his many buildings, he was partially responsible for Copenhagen's US Embassy; as the organiser behind the 25-city Design In Scandinavia exhibition of 1954, he was also one of the driving forces behind the introduction and popularity of Scandi style in the USA.

Inka, despite its premium price, was an instant success; its continued popularity and the scarcity of vintage pieces led to a reintroduction in more recent years. However, the more modern items are more of a reinterpretation than a recreation and are made of lighter and cheaper 18-10 gauge steel - all the items in this set are the heavier, more expensive 12-12, so we can be absolutely sure that it's an original set.

It's also complete, containing all the pieces for six settings along with a serving spoon and serving fork, and remains in the original (and very 1950s) lined wooden case - a very rare find, and one that is only going to become more and more valuable as the years go by.

Original Tarnprufe-lined wooden case

All the cutlery items are in very good, used condition - there are some light scratches but no bends, cracks or similar, and given a deep polish they'd look almost as good as they must have done when nearly new.

The wooden case is heavily scuffed on the exterior, though again there's no serious damage. The Tarnpruf lining, made of a processed velvet-like fabric designed to reduce tarnishing, is generally in good condition without rips or stains; however, the "Flexfit" foam inside the knife slots has hardened and then powered with age, leaving residue on the lining. The ruched satin lining behind the knives is also good but shows some wear.

We only accept payments made through one of eBay's many approved methods. Please make sure to complete your payment within 96 hours of winning an item. Once your payment has been received we will dispatch your item as soon as possible, usually within two working days.

Delivery

Delivery times are calculated in working days (Monday to Friday). If your order is placed after 1pm, the next working day will be considered the first working day for delivery. In case of bank holidays and during the Christmas period where delays are more likely, please allow an extra few days for delivery.

Domestic Delivery

We use Evri to deliver the majority of our parcels. If you would like to specify a preferred neighbour, or safe place for the parcel to be left, please leave the details in a message when placing your order.

Some low-value items will be sent by Royal Mail 2nd Class. Some items of higher value are sent by Royal Mail Signed For or Special Delivery, which require a signature. If you are not present at the time of delivery, a card will be left instructing you to arrange a redelivery, or to collect your order from the local sorting office.

Returns

Change of Mind

If when you receive your order you are not completely satisfied, you may return the items to us within 30 days for a refund. Returns will be processed within three working days once the goods have been received by us.

Items must be returned to us in the same condition as they were received by you. This includes, but is not limited to: original packaging, original boxes, packaging materials, manuals, blank warranty cards, accessories and documents. We reserve the right to refuse a return or deduct an amount for lost value where the item is returned in a different condition.
