Superb Original Piece - Vietnam War Zippo Lighter - Excellent piece displaying insignia of the at the time defunct 11th Airborne Division / 11th Air Assault whic was later to become the 1st Air Cavalry Division
The 11th Airborne Division was reactivated as the 11th Air Assault Division (Test) on 1 February 1963 at Fort Benning to test helicopter assault concepts. The division included the 10th Air Transport Brigade and the 11th Aviation Group with new infantry and aviation units. Led by Major General Charles W. G. Rich and Brigadier General Harry W. O. Kinnard, the division developed air assault tactics and tested helicopters in various exercises. In 1965, after the successful tests, the division was merged into the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), which was then sent to Vietnam.
